The Sicilian Rosewood & Briarwood Chess Set

A magnificent chess set combination of contrasting woods. The board is hand made in Italy, made from Briar wood and Elm veneers and finished in multiple coats of deep rich lacquer. The Briar wood bur has amazing depth of grain with really seductive patterning that exhibits a number of shades of hue and tone. Rich yellows succeed deep reds, which precede rich browns. The inlaid veneer squares are bordered with a subtle ribbon of ebony that sections of the divides the playing area from the border. The underside of the board is veneered and lacquered and has felt pads to protect surfaces underneath.
The Sicilian series chessmen are a glorious representation of the Staunton design. They have been beautifully hand carved and turned by one of the world's finest wooden chess piece makers from graded Indian Rosewood and Boxwood.
